The Majestic Theatre in downtown St. John’s is returning to its roots – now operating as a not-for-profit organization.
The space reopened in 2023 following significant renovations by Terra Bruce Productions. Since then, it has hosted a variety of plays, comedy shows, and concerts.
Executive Director Krysta Rudofsky says the new designation allows them to focus on keeping the venue viable.
She says they plan to use ticket sales to fund a program that gives young people the opportunity to perform and learn about the theatre industry.
“Audiences can expect the same level of incredible programming that they’ve seen in the past. I think from their experience, the Majestic Theatre will still be the same venue that they know and love.”
“The change now is that we are working really hard to help ensure that this venue has a future and so we’ll continue to fundraise. We’ll be looking for business support and audiences will see that we’re reaching out to them and explaining sometimes we’re doing fundraising, we might be selling in the future lottery.”
She says the Majestic is applying to become a registered charity, which will allow them to apply for more grants for their programs.
