The Nunatsiavut Government says it welcomes an investigation into the arrest of an Inuk man that sparked controversy online.
In the video shared by Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans, a man in handcuffs is thrown to the ground by a Happy Valley-Goose Bay enforcement officer.
Evans notes that the man is a homeless member of the community, and contends that more resources are needed to help homeless people.
The town says it is hiring an independent agency to investigate the incident, while the officer has been placed on administrative duties.
Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe says the video has raised many concerns. He says it is understood that the matter is being investigated, and he’s expecting “appropriate action” accordingly.
