Mother Nature is doing an about-face after delivering a shot of snow on the weekend. Today and tonight, it’s going to be wind and rain.
Winds pick up first this afternoon on the western half of the island with gusts nudging 100 km/h in most coastal areas and 140 km/h in the Wreckhouse.
Rob Carroll, a meteorologist with Environment Canada in Gander, says it will be wet as well, especially in eastern areas.
The Avalon gets 10-20 mm of rain starting around mid-evening while southern regions can expect 20-30 mm starting a few hours sooner. The rain and warm temperatures will do a number on the snow.
Marine Atlantic has cancelled the lunchtime crossings but has yet to make a call on the midnight runs.
