The province’s Minister responsible for the environment offered an update on flood mitigation in the Mud Lake area in the House today.
Minister Derek Bennett was responding to concerns raised by the Independent Member for Lake Melville, Perry Trimper last week.
Trimper forced a second sitting of the House of Assembly after refusing to consent to passing a bill that would allow some people to unlock their pensions. He wanted an opportunity to ask a question about flooding in his district.
Bennett brought the House up to date on the ongoing flood mitigation initiatives.
That includes the completion of flood risk mapping on the Churchill River with the Exploits and Humber rivers soon to follow. The province has also developed the country’s first real-time flood risk forecasting on the Churchill River to give residents advance warning of potential floods
