A municipal enforcement officer with the town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is returning to regular duties following an investigation into an altercation during an arrest back in October.
A video of the situation was posted to social media. It shows an officer with an Inuk man pressed against the hood of a patrol car.
The officer can be seen searching the man, the suspect turns towards the officer and is thrown to the ground.
The town says following an independent investigation, which included speaking to witnesses and reviewing the 10-minute body camera footage of the altercation, it was determined that there’s no evidence to suggest the officer acted outside of the scope of his authority as a community constable.
The officer will be allowed to return to regular duties effective immediately.
