A day after the Tories pledged to reimburse 100 per cent of travel costs for specialized care under MCP, the Liberals reaffirmed plans to beef up the program themselves.
The medical transportation assistance program helps people pay for out-of-pocket travel expenses when the care is not available in their area of the province.
It can cover portions of airfare and related taxi trips as well as private vehicle usage, accommodation and meals, busing, and ferry fees.
Premier Andrew Furey says people shouldn’t have to go broke trying to get the critical care they need.
He says if transportation is a barrier to receiving that treatment, then that barrier should be eliminated.
