The funeral for a man found unresponsive at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary last week is scheduled for this Friday.

31-year-old Greg Pike of Harbour Grace died in hospital on Sunday after he was found unresponsive in his cell late last Wednesday night.

His family is asking serious questions about the way in which addictions and mental health issues are being handled within the province’s corrections system.

Greg’s sister Courtney Pike posted to Facebook this week indicating her brother asked repeatedly for help and she believes the system let him down.

The Department of Justice says a full review will be conducted to examine all circumstances surrounding the death, including staff response and the appropriateness of related polices and procedures.
