The rainfall that has caused flooding and washouts on the province’s southwest coast is finally dissipating.
Up to 4:30 this afternoon, the weather station in Port aux Basques recorded 147.9 mm from the storm system which started dumping rain on the region yesterday morning.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Justin Boudreau says while the rain will continue through the evening, rainfall amounts have diminished considerably.
He says while the worst of the rain is over, with precipitation tapering off to light drizzle or showers tonight, it can take some time for the water to drain down into the basins, which means it’s hard to say if the worst of the flooding is over.
I don't like how this is lining up, Some heavier rain bands all lining up in the direction of flow. The whole band is sliding a bit eastward now, it will come back westward again tonight, though it should be less intense. Stay off the roads if you can. #nltraffic #nlwx pic.twitter.com/VYFANOOe56
