Work to repair road damage caused by record-breaking rainfall on the southwest coast concentrated yesterday near OverFalls on the Trans Canada Highway.
Area MHA Andrew Parsons provided the update yesterday evening. In a Facebook post complete with pictures of the scale of the work involved, Parsons indicated that making the OverFalls area passable again will allow more equipment and supplies to other sites where work is also underway.
Parsons also updated the situation regarding shortages in the area. He says more gas is en route via Marine Atlantic, but because supplies are low, he’s asking people to refrain from gassing up for the time being unless absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile Parsons also outlined a shortage of certain food staples. More food deliveries are expected to arrive today, but he’s asking people not to hoard, and to be reasonable in terms of family needs.
Air service is also available, with the priority going to people in need of medical services. Air service was affected yesterday by weather conditions elsewhere and more information will be provided when it becomes available.

Western Health has announced that all scheduled appointments and services will resume at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre and MP Place as of today, November 26.
Appointments for blood collection will proceed as scheduled. There are some tests which require samples to be transported out of the health centre, and those appointments will need to be rescheduled. Patients will be advised at registration if an appointment needs to be rescheduled.
Individuals with non-urgent medical concerns may call the Client Relations office at 1-833-784-6802, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Western Health reminds residents to call 911 if they are in a health emergency.
A Deer Lake company is offering some help to truck drivers stranded on the island due to road washouts caused by this week’s torrential rain.
Peterbilt Atlantic posted last night that it’s been hearing reports of truckers stranded, and is inviting them to visit for a shower, cup of coffee or just a comfortable lounge-around.
