The Mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay calls the power outage affecting half of the populace a trying time for the region.
The power has been out since yesterday morning and the estimated time of restoration isn’t until this evening.
Mayor George Andrews says the outage may have contributed to a number of fires in the town overnight.
He says the area fire department had to respond to three separate fire calls, including one especially serious one, overnight. There were no injuries, but Andrews is reminding people to be careful with the use of candles and generators.
In the meantime, warming centres have been set up in town.
