Now that the COVID vaccine has been approved for kids in the 5-11 age group, many parents may be wondering what sort of side effects their children may encounter after getting their shot.
Dr. Catherine Donovan, Public Health Physician and Honorary Research Professor at MUN, says she was “delighted” to hear that the vaccine was finally approved for that age group.
She explains that NACI is recommending eight-week intervals between shots for maximum effectiveness and that the efficacy is on par with the adult dose.
As far as side effects go, she says the trials so far have shown the standard responses – such as sore arms and fevers – but nothing severe.
As well, she says so far the United States has administered over 2-million doses to children and there have been no severe side effects there either.
