Seven more local species have been added to the Endangered Species Act, while two other species have seen a change in status.
Added to the list of threatened species are the island of Newfoundland’s natural Red Pine population and the Bank Swallow.
Five other species have been designated as vulnerable, including the Evening Grosbeak, the Red-Necked Phalarope, the tiny Mummichog, a fish that lives in brackish coastal waters, the Yellow-Banded Bumble Bee and the Transverse Lady Beetle.
Two species, the Red Crossbill percna subspecies and the Mackenzie’s Sweetvetch—a rare plant that only grows in two areas on the Port au Port Peninsula—has been down-listed from endangered to threatened.
