A fish harvester from La Scie says that despite a mechanical error, his threat to dump 50,000 pounds of shrimp stands.
Last week, owner/operators Terry and Josh Ryan threatened to dump their first load of Northern Shrimp of the season if there was no buyer, however, they returned to port Wednesday without any catch due to mechanical problems.
The two men are protesting a Fish Price Setting Panel decision on the price of shrimp, as buyers are refusing to pay the $1.42 per pound it is currently set at.
Terry Ryan vows that once the boat is repaired, which could be as early as tomorrow, he will follow through with his threat, which will result in about a $100,000 loss based on the catch, crew wages, supplies and fuel.
