The family of a man stabbed to death on the Southern Shore says the killer’s guilty plea now, is cold comfort for them.
27-year-old Brandon Noftall had pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder after the incident which occurred one week before Christmas in 2020.
The dispute was over money and left 41-year-old Bobby Noftall—Brandon’s stepfather—dead.
A preliminary inquiry found there was enough evidence to go to trial, which had been scheduled for October.
But yesterday, Noftall told Supreme Court Justice Kate O’Brien he was sorry for what he did, and wanted to plead guilty to the less serious offence of manslaughter.
That was accepted by the judge and the Crown, but not so much by the relatives of the victim.
They say sorry doesn’t bring a person back, adding the real healing process won’t begin until after Noftall is sentenced.
That will happen in the fall, following the sentencing hearing which is set for September 9.
