The Seaward Enterprises Association is calling on government to allow inshore harvesters to truck snow crab out of the province.
SEA-NL says at least two processing companies—Notre Dame Seafoods and Quinlan’s—have stopped buying crab, leaving many harvesters having trouble selling their catch.
The snow crab fishery was valued at $623 million in 2021 and was projected to grow to more than $800 million this year.
SEA-NL says as some local processors have stopped buying, inshore fish harvesters need to be able to explore mainland markets.
