The Prime Minister is defending his government’s clean fuel regulations amidst heavy criticism about their impact on the cost of living in this province.
Justin Trudeau is in Gander today to reveal details about their Canada workers benefit. That announcement is happening this afternoon.
Controversy has followed the implementation of the clean fuel regulations with many, including Premier Andrew Furey, saying they will have a significant and disproportionate impact on Atlantic Canada.
Trudeau says they designed the regulations so that there’s “no reason” for companies that are making record profits to pass the new charges on to consumers, noting that it is political and business choices that the companies are making.
He says the regulations are driving job-creating fuel projects in the region such as at Come By Chance. He says they’re mitigating the effects of climate change, and creating jobs for the future.
