A recent incident at the Hibernia platform could’ve killed someone, officials say.
It occurred on July 25th as a chemical tank was being hoisted from the platform to a support vessel.
During the operation, a four-pound piece of wood from the tank’s support frame came loose and fell about 15 metres to the deck of the support ship.
A statement from the regulator, the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board, said the incident had the potential to result in a fatality, had the wood hit someone.
However, they said there were no injuries because no one was inside “the pre-designated lifting exclusion zones” on both the ship and platform.
The C-NLOPB said it is monitoring the situation as Hibernia Management and Development Company investigates what happened.
