Music from this province has snagged three nominations for this year’s Juno Awards.
Inuk soprano Deantha Edmunds of St. John’s is up for two awards: Classic Composition of the Year and Classical Album of the Year (Large Ensemble).
The latter, Alikeness, included the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Sinfonia conducted by Mark Fewer and also featuring Aiyun Huang.
Kellie Loder is nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year for their record Transitions. It’s the third time Loder has been nominated for a Juno.
Meanwhile, a St. John’s music educator is one of five nominated for MusiCount’s Teacher of the Year Award.
Robert Colbourne has been an educator, advocate and choral director for more than 20 years, working with students of all ages, currently at Holy Heart of Mary High School and with the Shallaway Youth Choir.
The winner will be announced during the 54th Juno Awards live broadcast from Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on Sunday, March 30.
It’ll be hosted by Michael Buble, and will include what’s being billed as the “last-ever performance” by Canadian Music Hall of Fame Inductees, Sum 41.
