The Opposition health critic is calling for a criminal investigation after the Auditor General released her performance audit on personal care homes.
The report outlined eight “serious” incidents in need of follow-up, two of which involved the death of a resident and one related to a sexual assault.
In one instance, someone was “administered multiple medications of another resident,” which resulted in them dying from an accidental overdose.
Another situation involved a resident who went for a routine walk, but failed to return and was found dead the following day.
Barry Petten says the issues raised are serious enough to warrant a police investigation.
“Sexual assault alone, you’re talking about deaths,” he said, “any of that, my first instinct was ‘are they having a police investigation?”
“Maybe somebody needs to ask the AG or somebody; have they called the police and did they do a proper investigation, because that’s what we need.”
The NDP, meanwhile, says it is “disgusted” by the AG’s findings.
