Newfoundland and Labrador Housing has had to scale back its expectations in building some 50 new housing units in Corner Brook after a tender issued last October failed to result in successful bidders.
NLHC then went forward with a smaller tender for six units, and plans to issue further tenders starting this fall for more.
The $2.6 million contract was awarded to Brook Construction to build six new one-bedroom structures. That amounts to roughly $433,000 for each one.
The building will feature three two-story and three ground-level units.
One of those on the ground-level will be built on universal design principles and feature a wheelchair-accessible kitchen and bathroom.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks with a completion deadline of July of next year.
