A Stephenville man charged with a double murder in St. John’s made a second, brief appearance in provincial court this morning – albeit reluctantly.
Forty-one-year-old Matthew Delaney was arrested last Thursday night and charged with first- and second-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of two men, aged 38 and 53.
Their bodies were discovered in a home on Aldershot Street in the Rabbittown area of St. John’s on December 1.
Delaney was scheduled to be brought to provincial court this morning for an in-person update, but he refused to leave HMP.
After a lengthy delay, he agreed to appear by video instead, though he was only partially visible on the screen in court.
Delaney, who has a lengthy criminal record on the west coast of the island, was returned to jail pending his next appearance scheduled for January 20.
