Environment Canada has issued an alert for severe thundershowers on a large chunk of the island.
The yellow watch covers the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, central Newfoundland and parts of the west coast.

In areas where the storms do materialize, expect very heavy rain – about 30-40mm an hour.
