A St. John’s man is now accused of trying to kill three people in a west end apartment building last week.
Thirty-two-year-old Mitchell Rose was arrested about two hours after the sudden spree of violence on the night of December 8th.
Police were called to the Anspach Street building due to reports of a man screaming and banging on doors, and arrived to find two women with serious injuries. One has since been released and the other remains in serious but stable condition, while a man assaulted on nearby Blackmarsh Road was hospitalized and discharged.
Rose had faced two counts each of attempted murder and aggravated assault, three counts of assault with a weapon, two of assault causing bodily harm, and uttering death threats.
He made his first court appearance last week when an overnight psychiatric assessment was ordered, which was then extended by seven days.
Rose was due back in provincial court this afternoon, but it was postponed until Thursday morning when the court ran out of time. Nonetheless, the RNC issued a news release late today saying an additional charge of attempted murder had been laid involving another person in the building during the attacks.
Rose’s relatives have been present for his court appearances, expressing love and support to him as he’s escorted to and from the courtroom.
But they’ve also been vocal and critical of the province’s mental health supports, suggesting the system failed Rose, not to mention the victims in the case.
