Health officials are making adjustments to address high demand at the newly opened Urgent Care Clinic in the capital city’s east end.
Demand for the new service, which addresses health issues that require timely treatment, but are not necessarily an emergency, has been so great, NL Health Services had to install a phone line for patients only a day or two after it opened.
The walk-in service was launched on Monday with patients lined up outside even before the doors opened. Some patients were even turned away later in the day after the clinic reached capacity.
Megan Carey of NLHS says they’re now setting up an appointment system for those who can wait a day or two to have their symptoms addressed.
She says they’re setting up a separate phone line and online booking system for people to check to see if walk-ins are available and also book an appointment for the following day if their issue can wait. She says the online booking system, which opens daily at 11:00 a.m., will show availabilities for the following day.
