Mother Nature just keeps huffing and puffing on the island with wind, rain, and snow pelting down.
The few blades of snow left on the Avalon Peninsula will take another beating with some 20 mm of rain this afternoon preceded by freezing rain this morning. Compounding all that will be winds gusting to 100 km/h late this afternoon and tonight before calming down overnight.
Environment Canada meteorologist Graham MacDonald says things turn into a snowy mess once you get off the Avalon with snowfall warnings out for central and the west coast.
He says they’re expecting about 15 cm of snow for central and up to 25 cm for the west coast as the system may stick around a little longer in that area. Other than that, the system should be short lived.
Several schools in central and on the west coast are closed or have delayed openings.
