A man who had police units scrambling and people sheltering in place last Friday night has been released on bail.
Twenty-four-year-old Rylee Rideout is charged with 10 serious, indictable offences, including: breaking into a house while in disguise, pointing a firearm, robbing cash and a car, fleeing from police and dangerous driving.
It all began around 8 o’clock Friday night with the break-in and theft near Rideout’s own house on Riverside Drive West in a Goulds trailer park.
Minutes after fleeing in the stolen car, police caught up with him headed toward Mount Pearl, but he sped away and the chase was called off for public safety. Minutes after that, the car was found abandoned in the median on the TCH near Cochrane Pond.
Believing their suspect was now armed and on the run, a shelter-in-place was ordered but lifted three hours later after evidence, including a gun, was recovered. Rideout, meanwhile, was arrested late the next morning at his house on Riverside Drive West.
He’s also accused of breaching conditions of his release on charges he was already facing – more than 60 counts of making, selling and distributing child pornography.
Rideout’s latest release comes with three sureties and strict conditions that include no contact with almost 30 people.
Both the new and earlier charges will be called together when the case returns to court on February 19th.
