Opposition Leader John Hogan and energy critic Fred Hutton are calling on the premier to provide “clarity and stability” for the NL offshore following indications that Equinor is pushing back a “critical decision window” on Bay du Nord.
The news was reported through AllNewfoundlandLabrador.
Hogan says learning the information through a media report, rather than directly from government, is “deeply concerning.”
He calls Bay du Nord a “generational opportunity for jobs, economic growth and long-term” revenue for the province.
Premier Tony Wakeham, who campaigned on maximum jobs and benefits for Newfoundland and Labrador workers from the Bay du Nord project, recently spoke with Prime Minister Mark Carney about the importance of the project for NL.
The premier and energy minister met with Equinor officials in November.
The Opposition accuses Wakeham of “not being forthcoming with the public” in not announcing the deadline extension. That, says Hutton “raises further questions about what else the public does not know” including the status of negotiations for a benefits agreement.
