A 36-year-old man was picked up for public mischief following an unusual incident in Grand Falls-Windsor last week.

Police attempted to pull over a vehicle with several passengers on board on Coronation Street, but the vehicle sped away.

A short time later, the same vehicle was reported to police as stolen.

It turns out that the person who reported the stolen vehicle was actually a passenger in the same vehicle, and the report was false.

RCMP say the man was located and arrested without incident.

He was released to appear in court next month on a charge of public mischief. The investigation continues and further charges are possible.
