The Transportation Safety Board has released its report into an aircraft that overran the runway at Goose Bay Airport nearly two years ago.
The incident, which happened on April 13th, 2024, involved a Beechcraft King Air B200 aircraft operated by Keewatin Air.
The plane was departing on a medical evacuation with two pilots, two medical staff, and a patient on board. Shortly after takeoff, the crew received an engine fire notification and clearance was given to return to the airport.
The plane overran the runway, which was wet at the time, by about 40 feet, striking two runway end lights before stopping. There were no injuries.
The investigation found that the notification was triggered when a damaged wire made contact with the engine firewall.
The report concludes that the pilots, believing there was a fire, made an effort to return to the airport as quickly as possible – “prioritizing speed over task accuracy” in the process.
The TSB says Keewatin Air conducted an internal investigation following the incident, resulting in several corrective actions involving training and procedural improvements. ]
