When Premier Tony Wakeham met with Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houson last week, one of the big topics of discussion was healthcare.
Wakeham says it was “amazing” to hear some of the “creative ways” they are tackling healthcare, and how they have been able to reduce the number of people without a family doctor.
He says one of the ways they are doing that is through a partnership with one of their universities whereby provisionally licensed physicians get their complete certification a lot faster.
Wakeham says he is “very interested” in that program, noting that Houston has committed that if NL wants to join the program, they will make sure that seats are available. He says before that happens, they need to make sure the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons in both provinces are talking to each other. He believes that if someone is qualified to work in Nova Scotia, they are qualified to work here.
