A former St. John’s mayor says the capital has grown so much since the city depot went in on Blackmarsh Road that now might be the time to consider satellite depots to meet snow clearing needs.
Dennis O’Keefe took a run through Southlands yesterday and says he was shocked at the narrow paths and high snowbanks he encountered.
He understands how difficult it is to get to all areas of the city after snowfalls like the ones we’ve seen in recent days, but he believes it might be time to consider satellite depots to have equipment on the ready in higher elevations a distance from the city centre.
“Maybe the time has come, where, like with our fire department, we have satellite fire stations throughout the city,” says O’Keefe. “Have some equipment there to make sure they get out and get into what needs to be done right away.”
