Memorial University research scientists are being put to the test this week as they pitch their research without resorting to scientific jargon.
It’s part of MUN’s Scientific Endeavors in Academia conference this Thursday.
Student presenters will be asked to pitch their research in three minutes or less, but, harkening back to the 70s’ Gong Show, if they use jargon, they will get the dreaded gong.
If an audience member bangs the gong, the researcher must stop and rephrase their explanation.
MUN’s Faculty of Science says when it comes to scientific research, the art of the pitch is “pivotal” in capturing much-needed attention from the media, research funders and the general public.
Cash prizes will be available for the two best pitches.
