A St. John’s business owner is frustrated after charges laid against one of the people involved in a bold daylight robbery from his store appear to have been thrown out.
The accused was one of two people caught on camera breaking into Always in Vogue in January of 2025.
Owner Darren Halloran says the break-in occurred the evening after two men walked into the store, gathered up about $3000 worth of jackets and walked out while smiling at staff.
Some of the stolen goods were eventually recovered, but damage caused to the store’s front windows amounted to $5500.
Halloran was scheduled to testify as a witness against one of the people charged, but he was shocked when he was told by the Crown yesterday that he was no longer needed.
He was informed that the individual could not be identified, and that the other witnesses hadn’t shown up. He was told “we don’t need you. We’re moving on to bigger things.”)
He says his greatest disappointment is that he wasn’t able to tell his story, so he took to Facebook in frustration.
“It was a little disheartening,” says Halloran. “I understand the court systems are having trouble and the jails are full,…but it was just such a weird thing for me.” He says he “had no other choice but to put it out there to the world and see who would respond to it.”
