The province has issued a public tender for the removal of brush and charred trees from the shoulders of the main highway on the Conception Bay North Shore from Spout Cove to Northern Bay.
The area was devastated by wildfires last year that destroyed more than 200 buildings and burned through more than 9,000 hectares of forest and brush.
The Department of Transportation says while roadside brush clearing is designed to give drivers greater visibility, in this case it will be used to remove charred trees and allow for new growth.
#GovNL is advancing roadside brush clearing on Route 70 to improve safety and remove wildfire damaged foliage, while expanding domestic cutting areas and permits.

The department is also allocating another 50 hectares of domestic cutting permits on the North Shore, targeting burnt-over areas near communities.
Anyone with a domestic cutting permit in the area is asked to contact the Paddy’s Pond Forest Management Office at 709-729-4180.
