The mayor of a town in central Newfoundland recently rocked by two separate shootings says RCMP do well with what they have, but he would like to see more officers in the region.
Within the span of a couple of days, one woman was shot and hospitalized by an ex-partner while in a separate incident, a woman was shot and killed.
Grand Falls-Windsor Mayor Mike Browne doesn’t know any details of the incidents as RCMP are tight-lipped as they investigate, but he has met with area MHA and cabinet minister Chris Tibbs on the topic of police presence.
The detachment in his town covers the region from Buchans to Leading Tickles and everything in between.
He doesn’t know if drugs had anything to do with either incident, but says street-level drug activity in the town is at an all-time high.
