Canadians are changing their travel plans thanks to ever-shifting geopolitics, but rather than staying home, they’re picking different destinations.
That’s according to Julia Kent of CAA Atlantic.
She says Cuba has long been a favoured destination for many Canadians, but that’s changed.
“What we’re seeing is they’re going to places like the Dominican or other warm destinations that are similar.”
Travel advisories had previously been issued for Mexico – another popular vacation destination for Canadians – after an outbreak of violence and rioting earlier this year, but Kent says that’s since calmed down and travelers are still booking Mexican vacations.
“We’re seeing that people are still going to Mexico…there was just a very short span there where people had to reschedule or change their travel plans.” She says they’re also seeing a lot of interest in Jamaica and cruise vacations.
