The parking lot outside Memorial University’s Bruneau Centre was filled with emergency vehicles yesterday – not because of a serious incident, but to educate people about emergency preparedness.
It was for an event known as the Emergency Preparedness Expo.
Police cruisers, tactical vehicles, a fire truck, and a Newfoundland Power vehicle were among those on display. On the inside, booths representing a number of organizations were set up to give people information about how they respond to emergencies, and general safety tips the public can use.
Holly Tobin, the manager of emergency planning and business continuity at MUN, says it is important to keep emergency preparedness top-of-mind.
She hopes people walked away from the event thinking about doing things like updating their fire evacuations plans, getting an emergency kit, or better understanding how to get emergency alerts at their school or workplace.
