A campaign to attract more potential families into the foster care system is beginning to pay off according to the provincial government.
Reducing case wait times and increasing the number of people willing to take in a child who is unable to live with their family was one of the commitments made by the PCs in its first budget a few months ago.
Minister Joedy Wall says more than 900 children and young people are currently in the province’s child protective system.
“The new campaign which we started a few months ago has certainly put a new light on the situation,” says Minister Wall.
“There has definitely been an increase in the number of inquiries from people interested in helping.”
The Department of Social Supports and Well Being is asking those interested to call 1-855-683-8111 or email fosterafuture@gov.nl.ca for more information.
