You see them in only a few arenas in the province now, but electric Zambonis are becoming the means of flooding the ice between periods of hockey games. The Mary Brown’s Centre is going to abandon the diesel Zamboni in favour of electric in the next couple of years.

Brent Meade, the CEO of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, says they are always looking at ways to improve the facility through systems controls and other operations of the building.

“A big life cycle thing we’re going through right now is really moving towards, in the 21st century now the computerization of a lot of our stuff. A lot of it would have been from 20 years ago so for example a lot of our control systems are now being upgraded, whether that’s for lighting, or HVAC, or stuff like that, or ice plant issues.” He told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan.

“So, that’s all been done the past three years, or is in the plan to be done in the next couple of years. So, that’s kind of the next generation of what we’re doing, and we’re feeling pretty good about it.”
