NLHC says a meeting that MHA Sheilagh O’Leary says she was blocked from attending has been rescheduled and, this time, the MHA has been invited to take part.
The MHA for St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi took to VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan yesterday saying she was blocked from a meeting updating the situation for 16 Housing tenants displaced by a fire on Cochrane Street back in July.
NL Housing says the meeting in question was arranged to allow operational, tenancy, maintenance and personal matters to be discussed “directly and confidentially” with affected tenants.
The housing corporation says meetings with MHAs or political staff, frontline employees and tenants are not considered normal operations for the corporation and its employees.
The corporation says when elected officials participate, they prefer to have the appropriate ministerial and management representatives on hand to hear the same information and participate in discussion.
A new meeting was scheduled for this morning, and the area MHA has been invited to attend. NLHC says it has been “working closely” with the displaced tenants since the fire occurred, and work is ongoing to get varying levels of damage caused to apartments in the Cochrane Street building repaired.
