Public service trades workers rallied in Clarenville this week to once again highlight fears that they’re being overlooked.

The public service employs skilled trades workers like electricians and plumbers, but NAPE says salaries are not keeping up with the private sector.

That’s a concern when it comes to retention and recruitment.

NAPE President Jerry Earle says government has to address the issue.

“We’re drawing the light to a difficulty we’re having in retaining needed trades people. None of this infrastructure maintains itself…these people are essential in the system, and unfortunately, employers, government included, have failed to address it.”
