The provincial government is spending millions to create a new forestry hub on the west coast.
The old human resources and administration building at Corner Brook Pulp and Paper will get a facelift. Minister Gerry Byrne says it will become a skilled trades training facility with a component for research and development, and entrepreneurial activity.
The building will be operated by a consortium involving the pulp and paper company, the College of the North Atlantic and Memorial University through Grenfell Campus.
The building will be leased from Corner Brook Pulp and Paper for 20 years. The province is putting up about $8.5-million.
He says it will become the administrative hub for organizations such as the Newfoundland Forest Products Association, the Newfoundland and Labrador Forestry Safety Association and others directly tied to the forestry.
This historic building in downtown Corner Brook is about to get a new look & a new purpose through a partnership between @FLR_GovNL @AESL_GovNL @TCII_GovNL CornerBrook Pulp & Paper @CNA_News @ACOACanada @grenfellcampus & other NL Forest industry partners.
