Two local business owners have been left disheartened after their businesses were broken into early Monday morning.
Spiritleaf and Saltwater are two neighbouring stores on Topsail Road in St. John’s.
Owner of SpiritLeaf, Chris Crosbie, says there was some damage to the store and the thief made off with about 10 per cent of his inventory.
Crosbie believes this is the first break-in at a legal LCR location in the province.
He says, luckily, the thief never got into their secure vault where the majority of inventory is. He notes they have the individual on camera without a mask, and they were able to record a “significant” amount of footage.

For neighbouring store Saltwater, the break-in was the beginning of just their second day at the location.
Caitlyn Noseworthy, who owns the business, says the culprit made off with all the cash in the store as well as some merchandise.
Noseworthy mentions she has never experienced something like this, either at the store’s old location or personally.
She calls it “upsetting” to know that someone invaded your space and touched and taken your belongings, saying that you feel “sick to your stomach” knowing someone would do that.
