A sheen, caused by the release of turbine oil, that was reported near the Muskrat Falls powerhouse has been contained to a small area in the tailrace channel.
Nalcor Energy issued a release Wednesday evening saying that a boom had been deployed to contain the product prior to initiating the cleanup.
Nalcor says they do not expect the sheen to move down the river.
The maximum volume of oil contained inside the turbine bearing is 960 litres and much of that oil is still inside.
An investigation into the cause of the release and amount spilled is underway.
