The provincial government says there is no other offer coming for striking ferry captains.
Cabinet ministers Steve Crocker and Derrick Bragg gave an update on the dispute Thursday afternoon.
Crocker, President of Treasury Board, said he’s asking the Canadian Merchant Service Guild to reconsider government’s current offer. Crocker notes it was the guild which broke off talks two years ago and chose to challenge the essential services designations through the Labour Relations Board and later the courts.
He said government’s 5 per cent offer is the same as the one provided to most of the public service.
Crocker said the captains want the current daily sailing schedules written into the collective agreement, a measure which he claims would limit future operating flexibility and increase overtime costs.
In total, five runs have been impacted by the strike.
