TechNL is beginning the process of establishing a Newfoundland and Labrador Innovation Centre.
CEO Paul Preston says within the next couple of weeks they will be launching two requests for proposals (RFPs).
The first will focus on a physical location for the centre.
The second will focus on what will be put into the building, what services they will provide, and the centre’s governance model.
Preston says most of the tech companies established in NL are export-oriented, and because we don’t have a big domestic economy we need to think differently.
He is calling on all sectors of the economy to embrace technology.
He says we have a lot of resources that present an amazing opportunity if done right. The centre is about providing a space where we can say “innovation happens here.”
