The MHA for St. Barbe-L’Anse aux Meadows is among those mourning the loss of a fisherman in a boating tragedy that unfolded off Sally’s Cove on the Northern Peninsula this week.
Two men left Sally’s Cove at dawn Tuesday morning in a 21′ open boat. They were expected later that same afternoon, but failed to return as scheduled.
A search was launched overnight and the body of Todd McLean of Green Island Cove was pulled from the waters yesterday. Another man was rescued by the Coast Guard around the same time.
Christopher Mitchelmore grew up in Green Island Cove and was a life-long friend of the deceased.
He offered his sincere condolences to McLean’s family and indicated that he will cherish the decades of memories he made with McLean since they were children.
