A new Chief of Police will soon be named to take over the RNC at what is a challenging time.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is facing several serious accusations of sexual assault against current and former police officers, but Justice Minister John Hogan assures that the force will have someone at the helm as the situation plays out.
According to lawyer Lynn Moore, numerous victims have come forward with accusations. This comes as the RNC is in a period of transition as RNC Chief Joe Boland is set to retire in one week. Boland has been identified as a witness in the accusations as two victims approached him. He is now facilitating a process for them.
Questions have been raised about whether a new chief should be named now, or if government should wait until more information about the allegations comes out.
According to Hogan, there will be someone in place to take control of the RNC when Boland leaves. He says that there will be an announcement about who will take over before next Friday.
Meanwhile, the RNC do not know the identity of the officer lawyer Lynn Moore is speaking of whom she says is still active.
Moore states she is not in a position to reveal their identity as she has not had permission to do so from the woman who has been in contact with her.
Seven officers have been accused of committing sexual offences against RNC officers.
