The official Opposition has launched a new website for people to have their say on the Churchill Falls deal with Quebec.
The site is called NLHaveYourSay.ca.
On the site there is a form to fill out, which includes a section where people can write out their opinions on the multi-billion-dollar hydro-electric deal.
The Liberals say all of their MHAs will be meeting with residents over the next few weeks and will be bringing their concerns to the legislature when it opens October 26th.
Meanwhile, the results of a citizen-lead vote on the deal are in, and most of the respondents voted against the agreement.
Jamie Fowlow launched Referendum.ca to give people a chance to vote on the deal, an idea which was sparked by the premier’s decision to cancel a promised referendum on the document.
The question was whether the new deal is in the best interest of the province. In total, over 3,900 votes were cast, with nearly 93 per cent of people opting for “no.”
Speaking on VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan, Fowlow called the initiative “non-partisan,” and says the results will be brought back to elected officials.
He says he wanted to have enough of a sample size to bring back to government and to have another look at the deal.
