There’s a scammer in our midst trying to latch on to people who have been caught speeding and intercept ticket payments.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador says it appears that the fraudster is attempting to collect speed camera ticket payments by impersonating the MyGovNL website.

Government has some advice on how to verify if it is actually their website or not: payments should only be made through Fines Administration.

Anyone going that route should verify that you’re on an official GovNL website before entering personal or financial information, and confirm your personal information and vehicle details before making a payment.

People should be cautious of QR Codes and links that do not lead to official GovNL websites.

If you believe you’ve made a payment through a fraudulent site, contact your bank immediately and report it to police.
